Thousand Oaks, CA Real Estate

Thousand Oaks has gained recognition for being among the safest cities in California and the second-largest city in Ventura County. Situated between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and 12 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, Thousand Oaks is bordered by the Santa Monica Mountains in the South, Conejo Mountains to the West and North, and Simi Hills to the North East.

The temperate Mediterranean climate allows for sunny and dry summers and mild winters making the area one of Southern California’s most desirable places to live. Thousand Oaks has several real estate options available from townhomes and condos to large ranch-style estates. Several well-known recreational areas, parks, and hiking trails that can be enjoyed year-round, surround residents. The Chumash Indian Museum, The Oaks Shopping Center, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Janss Shopping Center, Gardens of the World, Wildwood Regional Park, Stagecoach Inn Museum, are among a few local favorites.

Surrounded by the rolling hills and oak trees, it’s one of the most sought-after communities, first being settled by the Chumash Indians over 10,000 years ago. In the late 1800s a Norwegian community settled near what is now Cal Lutheran University. To this day, many places are named after prominent Norwegian families such as Olsen and Pedersen.

In the late 1950s Thousand Oaks became a highly desirable ranch community strewn with chicken farms and orchards. Numerous celebrities owned ranches in the area including Dean Martin, Roy Rogers, and Bob Hope.
