The Dos Vientos Ranch neighborhood, which was a 2,350-unit housing development approved by the Thousand Oaks City Council in April 1988 is a master-planned and upscale community. The master plan for the neighborhood was approved in the 1980s, but took off after major infrastructure was built to support the homes in 1998.

The access to this Newbury Park community within Newbury Park sprawls across three freeway exits on the 101 Fwy.  For a more scenic drive, it can also be reached by crossing through the Santa Monica Mountains from the coast. The main road through the Hidden Valley turns eventually into Potrero Road, ultimately leading to Newbury Park. There are numerous trailheads in town, for instance one leading through the Santa Monica Mountains and all the way to the coast.
