Stretching 21 miles on the Southern California coast lies the laid-back yet wealthy beach community of Malibu. Considered a Los Angeles suburb, about 30 miles from the hustle and bustle of Downtown L.A., Malibu has built a name for attracting Hollywood’s elite so it’s no wonder the clout and reputation Malibu has is astounding. This quiet town hasn’t always been home to the rich and famous. In fact, thousands of years ago it was inhabited by the Chumash Indians who called it “Humilawo” which means “The Surf Sounds Loudly.” This Native American name eventually evolved over time into what we now call “Malibu.” We’ve rounded up the best of Malibu, what to see, where to eat and what to do! Here are some amazing features of this town that residents (and tourists!) enjoy most:

NEIGHBORHOODS

Malibu real estate continues to be one of the most lucrative and hottest real estate markets in the nation. There are many high profile neighborhoods that make up the majority of Malibu. Besides the canyon/ land-side homes of Malibu, there are pockets of beachside neighborhoods that line on or near PCH that most Malibu-ites call home. Some are private and cannot be accessed by the public.

While Malibu has rather small population there isn’t a shortage of fun thing to do here! Malibu offers some of the best of outdoor activities. Whether you want to stay dry and go on a beautiful hike in the Santa Monica Mountains or get wet and splash in the waves at Point Dume, here’s our Top 10 best activities in Malibu:

SCHOOLS
Pepperdine University is a private Christian college in the heart of Malibu and has called Malibu home since 1972. There is one middle school and one high school in Malibu that starts from grades 6-12 called Malibu High School. There are three elementary schools that encompasses the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District: John L. Webster Elementary School, Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, and Point Dume Elementary School. The private schools include Our Lady of Malibu (K-8), Colin McEwen High School (K-12), and New Roads School (K-12).
